Star Fox: Assault is a third-person shooter developed by Namco and released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005. Players control Fox McCloud, joined by series regulars Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi, as the team battles waves of enemies across both aerial and ground-based environments. Gameplay shifts between three distinct styles: piloting the Arwing fighter for space and air combat, commanding the Landmaster tank in ground engagements, and fighting on foot with weapons such as sniper rifles and rocket launchers. This variety gives the campaign a dynamic structure that distinguishes it from earlier entries in the franchise. Beyond the single-player story mode, the game includes a four-player split-screen multiplayer mode, supporting competitive play among multiple participants on a single console. Assault represents one of the few mainline Star Fox titles to place significant emphasis on ground-based combat alongside traditional flight sequences.
