About

Super Mario Maker is a 2015 Wii U platform game developed by Nintendo EAD Software Development Group No. 4 that centers on creating and sharing side-scrolling Mario levels. Using the Wii U GamePad's touch screen, players design courses by placing and arranging elements much as they would sketch ideas on paper, with no advanced technical knowledge required. Completed levels can be uploaded and played by others around the world, providing a continuously expanding pool of community-made content. A 100 Mario Challenge mode offers a structured way to work through existing stages. The game supports numerous amiibo figures through the Mystery Mushroom item, which lets Mario take on the appearance of characters such as Link, Kirby, and Wii Fit Trainer, each with dedicated animations and sound effects. Special 30th-anniversary Mario amiibo add a Big Mushroom power-up and a retro CRT-style visual filter. A companion book of roughly 100 pages illustrates the range of design possibilities.
