The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a puzzle-adventure game developed by Nintendo EAD Software Development Group No.3, released in 2011 for the Wii and later made available on Wii U. It was the first entry in the Zelda series designed from the ground up around the Wii hardware, making extensive use of the Wii MotionPlus peripheral to handle sword combat with motion-based controls, while a revised Wii Remote pointing system manages targeting. The overall structure follows the established Zelda framework — players traverse an overworld to locate temples, work through a sequence of puzzles within each one, and confront a boss at the end to advance the story. A notable departure from earlier entries is that the overworld itself is oriented primarily around puzzle-solving rather than action, with combat encounters appearing only sparingly outside of dedicated dungeon spaces.
