Tony Hawk's American Sk8land is a 2005 skateboarding game developed by Vicarious Visions for the Nintendo DS, serving as the handheld counterpart to the seventh mainline entry in the series, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. It shares much of that console release's soundtrack, environments, and characters, while adopting a cel-shaded visual style. The DS hardware is utilized across both screens: the top displays the main gameplay, while the touch screen provides an overhead map, trick shortcut icons, and a skateboard art creation tool. Players can also record personal audio clips using the console's built-in microphone for use within the game. Notably, American Sk8land was the first third-party Nintendo DS title to support Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, enabling online multiplayer modes including Trick Attack, Score Challenge, Combo Mambo, and The Price is Wrong. Online functionality also extends to uploading and downloading graffiti, board art, high scores, replays, and periodically refreshed goals.
