Twisted Metal is a vehicular combat game developed by Eat Sleep Play Inc., released in 1995 for PlayStation. Players select from 12 distinct vehicles, each with a unique driver and special move, then fight through a series of arena-based battles against a growing number of opponents across progressively larger environments. The campaign culminates in a showdown against Darkside, the previous year's champion, who pilots a heavily armored car capable of launching multiple missiles simultaneously. Controls cover acceleration, braking, a tight-turn handbrake, and turbo on the face buttons, while shoulder buttons handle weapon selection and firing. Arenas contain weapon pickups to replenish missile supplies, repair stations for restoring vehicle health, pedestrians, and armed course stewards carrying machine guns or missile launchers. The game was later made available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PC.
