Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is a real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released in 2002 for Windows and Mac. Players command one of four distinct factions — Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, or Undead — each featuring its own unit roster and hero characters with unique abilities. Heroes function as powerful individual units that can be developed over the course of a match, adding a role-playing layer to the traditional RTS formula. The game includes a story-driven single-player campaign that follows the factions through an interconnected narrative. Beyond the campaign, players can compete against others worldwide through online multiplayer using official or custom maps. A built-in map creation tool also allows players to design their own scenarios, a feature that contributed significantly to the game's lasting community and the emergence of entirely new custom game genres.
