Burnout 2: Point of Impact is a street racing game developed by Criterion Games, released in 2002 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube. Rather than confining races to closed circuits, the game takes place across an interconnected city and its surrounding areas, with race courses threaded through real streets that frequently overlap with one another. The core design philosophy rewards reckless, aggressive driving over cautious technique. Building boost — the game's central mechanic — requires dangerous behavior: driving into oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions, drifting, and hitting jumps all charge the boost meter. Once filled, that meter can be spent on bursts of speed to weave past buses, trucks, and other obstacles. The more hazardous and offensive the driving, the more boost the player accumulates, making deliberate risk-taking the primary route to competitive performance.
