Killzone 2 is a first-person shooter developed by Guerrilla Games and released in 2009 exclusively for PlayStation 3. The third entry in the Killzone series, it picks up two years after the events of its predecessors, continuing the franchise's ongoing conflict. Guerrilla designed the campaign around a philosophy they called Hollywood Realism, emphasizing scripted, cinematic sequences throughout. Most of the game is played from a first-person perspective, with select segments shifting to vehicular combat in a tank and an exoskeleton. Alongside the single-player campaign, the game includes a squad-based multiplayer mode called Warzone, which supports up to 32 players and allows bots to fill vacant slots. Warzone features seven distinct classes and five mission types — Assassination, Search & Retrieve, Search & Destroy, Bodycount, and Capture & Hold — offering varied objective-based play across its competitive modes.
Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is taking the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. The ISA goal is direct: capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Assuming the role of Sev, a battle-hardened veteran and a member of the Special Forces unit Alpha Team, the player must lead a group of highly trained soldiers on a mission to take out the Helghast threat.
