Killzone: Liberation is a third-person shooter developed by Guerrilla Games, released in 2006 for PlayStation Portable and later made available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. A sequel to the original PlayStation 2 Killzone, it departs from its predecessor's first-person perspective in favor of a top-down, third-person viewpoint. During combat, players can activate a tactical overview mode that slows the action and zooms out the camera, allowing for deliberate planning by displaying available actions and objectives as on-screen icons. The game includes a full suite of local wireless multiplayer options through Ad Hoc connectivity, supporting both cooperative and competitive play for up to six players. Competitive modes include Deathmatch, Assault, and Capture the Flag, providing variety beyond the single-player campaign.
Two months after the events of Killzone, most of southern Vekta is still under Helghast control. The rules of war are cast aside when the Helghast General, Metrac, employs increasingly brutal measures to seize the initiative and strengthen his position. Reprising the role of Templar, the player is sent on a covert operation to save hostages captured by Metrac, while ISA troops continue the fight for liberty.
