NHL 09 is a sports simulation title developed by EA Canada and released in 2008 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC. It is the 17th entry in EA Sports' long-running NHL series and carries notable distinction as the final installment in the franchise to appear on PlayStation 2 and the last to receive a PC release. Versions planned for Nintendo DS and Wii were ultimately cancelled before release. As part of an established annual hockey series spanning nearly two decades at the time of its release, NHL 09 continued the franchise's tradition of simulating professional ice hockey, bringing the sport to both current and previous console generations simultaneously during its release cycle.
