Ratchet: Deadlocked is a 2005 action shooter developed by Insomniac Games for PlayStation 2 and the fourth entry in the Ratchet & Clank series. Unlike its predecessors, the game shifts emphasis away from platforming and puzzle-solving toward combat, giving it a distinctly action-heavy character. Players are accompanied by two AI combat bots that can be upgraded over time with improved weapons and firepower. The arsenal is smaller than in previous entries — ten weapons total — but weapon modification receives greater attention through a two-tier mod system. Omega mods, applicable to any weapon, include effects such as freeze and magma, while Alpha mods are weapon-specific and adjust attributes like rate of fire, ammo capacity, and damage output. Clank does not appear as a playable character, instead communicating with Ratchet remotely. The game also supports online multiplayer.
The storyline involves Ratchet and Clank, along with Al, being kidnapped and forced to compete in an underground reality show called "DreadZone" run by the media mogul Gleeman Vox on the outer fringes of the galaxy.
