Samurai Warriors 3 is a hack-and-slash title developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and released on the Wii in 2009, serving as the third entry in the Samurai Warriors series. Set during Japan's Sengoku period — a turbulent era of competing daimyos, military conflict, and political upheaval spanning the mid-16th to early 17th centuries — the game presents a reimagined take on historical events from that time. The most significant mechanical addition over its predecessors is the Spirit Gauge, which enables players to cancel certain attacks and chain into more powerful ones based on gauge level; it can also be combined with Musou attacks to trigger an "Ultimate Musou." Weapon categorization follows a Normal, Speed, and Power system similar to Dynasty Warriors 6, though each character retains their own unique weapons. Select attack combinations from prior Xtreme Legends expansions also return.
