Samurai Warriors: State of War is a 2005 hack-and-slash strategy title developed by Omega Force for the PlayStation Portable. Rather than a direct port of the console Samurai Warriors, it takes a distinct approach reminiscent of the Empires spin-off series, blending turn-based strategy with fast-paced action. Gameplay alternates between two phases: a strategy stage in which the player moves across a grid-based map in turn-based fashion, with terrain influencing available actions, and an action stage requiring the player to defeat as many enemies as possible within 60 seconds. Players can align with one of four factions — the Takeda, Uesugi, Nobunaga, or a solo army — and completing the game with all four unlocks a final stage. The roster includes guest characters from Dynasty Warriors 4. The game offers Story, Free, and VS modes.
