The Master Trials is the first DLC pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017 for Nintendo Switch and Wii U as part of the Expansion Pass. It adds no new story content but introduces several notable features and challenges. The centerpiece is the Trial of the Sword, a gauntlet of 45 enemy-filled rooms that Link must clear without any starting equipment; completing it permanently strengthens the Master Sword. Master Mode reworks the base game's combat by upgrading enemy strength, adding regenerating health to foes, and placing new enemies and treasure chests in aerial locations. New tools include the Travel Medallion, which lets players register a custom fast-travel point, and the Korok Mask, which vibrates when a Korok is nearby. The Hero's Path feature tracks up to 200 hours of movement across the map. Eight pieces of armor referencing earlier Zelda titles, including Majora's Mask and Midna's Helmet, are hidden throughout Hyrule.
