Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey is an arcade-style ice hockey game developed by Williams Entertainment and released in 1996 for arcade, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation. Rather than pursuing the simulation approach associated with the EA NHL series, it prioritizes exaggerated, high-scoring action through a set of special moves: "power saves" temporarily transform the goaltender into a brick wall, "power shots" can set the net ablaze or knock the goalie into it, and "power checks" trigger an ambulance traveling across the top of the screen. Fights are frequent and over-the-top. For players preferring a more grounded experience, a simulation mode is also available. The game supports player profile creation and tracks a range of individual and team statistics, including goals, assists, and wins, giving repeated sessions a sense of ongoing progression and record-keeping.
