X-Men: The Official Game is a hack-and-slash title developed by Beenox for PC and by Z-Axis for consoles, released in 2006 as a tie-in to the film X-Men: The Last Stand. The game spans events from both X2: X-Men United and The Last Stand, with players controlling three characters: Wolverine, Iceman, and Nightcrawler. Rather than simply adapting the films, it also fills in narrative gaps between them — most notably explaining Nightcrawler's absence from The Last Stand — and introduces antagonists from the HYDRA organization, a faction not otherwise present in the Fox X-Men film canon at the time. Published by Activision, the title appeared across multiple platforms with different studios handling individual versions, including WayForward Technologies on Game Boy Advance and Amaze Entertainment on Nintendo DS.
