Dirt 3 is an off-road rally racing game developed by Codemasters Southam and released in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Players compete across 98 courses — some of which are variants of the same track — in predominantly off-road environments, with a co-driver providing turn-by-turn navigation during most events. A rewind mechanic allows mistakes to be corrected mid-race. The career mode forms the core of the game, tasking players with entering races, tuning vehicles, and accumulating experience points to unlock new cars. Six distinct race types appear throughout the career, including standard rally events and the passenger-free Trailblazer discipline. Two modes introduced in this installment are drift tournaments and Gymkhana, the latter placing drivers in open areas where the objective is to execute as many stunts as possible within a time limit. Each mode also features optional bonus objectives that reward additional experience upon completion. Outside the career, standalone single-race options are available.
