Dirt Showdown is an arcade racing and motorsport title developed by Codemasters Southam and released in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and Linux. The game centers on a global tour of high-energy driving events held at iconic locations, where players compete across a variety of modes emphasizing speed, trick driving, and vehicular combat. Crowd reaction and spectacle are central to the experience, with performances at each event earning the approval of enthusiastic audiences. The design prioritizes accessibility and social gameplay alongside its more aggressive, collision-focused mechanics, distinguishing it from the simulation-leaning entries in the broader DiRT series. Rather than focusing narrowly on rally or circuit racing, Dirt Showdown mixes disciplines — blending conventional racing with destruction-oriented formats — to produce a more freewheeling, stunt-driven take on motorsport competition.
DiRT Showdown was the first spin-off of the series, taking a more arcade approach to the much-loved franchise. In DiRT Showdown, players entered a series of Tour events and were presented with a variety of races and tournaments to contend with. Released in 2012 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, the game added Hoonigan events and Destruction Derbies into the DiRTy mix of disciplines along with a host of online Party Modes such as Smash and Grab, Transporter and Speed Skirmish.
