Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge is a free-to-play platform puzzle game developed by Nintendo Software Technology, released in 2016 for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Players use compatible amiibo figures — tapped to the Wii U GamePad or a New Nintendo 3DS, or to older 3DS hardware via the NFC Reader/Writer accessory — to select one of 11 miniature characters and guide them through more than 60 levels. Any compatible amiibo can be used to access the base experience, but tapping specific figures unlocks characters with exclusive level sets and distinct abilities. Mini Mario, for instance, can perform a wall jump, while mini Yoshi has the ability to consume enemies. This amiibo integration makes the roster of playable characters and their associated content directly tied to a player's physical figure collection.
