Guitar Hero 5 is a music rhythm game developed by Neversoft Entertainment and published by Activision, released in September 2009 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The fifth main entry in the series, it centers on a four-person band format covering lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals. Players work through a track list of 85 songs from 83 artists, with several musicians — including Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana, Shirley Manson, Matthew Bellamy, and Kurt Cobain — represented as motion-captured playable characters alongside customizable user-created avatars and instruments. Notable additions over its predecessor, Guitar Hero: World Tour, include drop-in/drop-out play, bands composed of any instrument combination, and a Rockfest competitive mode with multiple scoring systems. General and song-specific Challenges unlock cosmetic rewards. The game also supports GHTunes for user-created music, accepts most World Tour downloadable content, and allows song export to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Band Hero.
