Metroid Dread is a 2D side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development, released in 2021 for Nintendo Switch. It marks the first original 2D entry in the Metroid series in nearly two decades, continuing the story of intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran following the events of Metroid Fusion. The game sends Samus to planet ZDR, where she investigates a mysterious transmission received by the Galactic Federation, only to find the world overrun by hostile alien lifeforms and dangerous mechanical enemies. Players navigate ZDR's environments using an expanded set of movement and combat abilities, as Samus is depicted as more agile and versatile than in previous entries.
