Metroid: Other M is an action-adventure shooter developed by D-Rockets and released in 2010 for the Wii, later available on Wii U. Part of the long-running Metroid franchise, it places players in control of bounty hunter Samus Aran across three-dimensional environments, departing from the series' traditional two-dimensional plane while retaining familiar mechanics such as the arm cannon and morph ball, which allows passage through narrow areas and the deployment of energy bombs. Gameplay alternates between a third-person perspective, controlled by holding the Wii Remote horizontally, and a first-person view activated by pointing the remote at the screen. The first-person mode enables missile targeting and item discovery but restricts movement. Other M introduces melee combat to the series, including the Sense Move dodge and the Overblast technique. The game places considerable emphasis on narrative, using extensive cinematics and full voice acting.
In the fictional chronology of the Metroid series, Other M is set between the events of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. The story follows bounty hunter Samus Aran, who investigates a derelict space station along with a Galactic Federation platoon, which includes her former commanding officer, Adam Malkovich.
