Part of Konami's long-running PES series — known in Japan as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2011 — it positions itself as a direct competitor to the FIFA franchise. The game features fully licensed versions of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, both of which carried over from the previous entry in the series. A notable addition is the Copa Libertadores, which received full licensing for the first time in the series' history.
