Kirby Star Allies is a 2018 platform and beat 'em up game developed by HAL Laboratory for the Nintendo Switch. Players control Kirby across side-scrolling stages, using a variety of copy abilities — including Sword, Fire, and Water — absorbed from defeated enemies. A central mechanic allows Kirby to befriend certain enemies and enlist them as AI-controlled helpers, building a party of up to four characters. The game also supports cooperative multiplayer for up to three additional players, who can join as these recruited allies. Combining different abilities between Kirby and his companions produces enhanced attacks and hybrid powers, adding a layer of strategy to the familiar Kirby formula. Rendered in HD on the Switch, the title maintains the series' characteristically colorful visual style while expanding on team-based gameplay as its primary distinguishing feature.
