Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a tactical role-playing game developed by Nintendo SPD Production Group No. 2, released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS and later available on Wii U. A remake of the original NES entries in the series, it updates those titles with reworked graphics and touch-screen controls suited to the DS hardware. The game centers on Marth, the original protagonist of the Fire Emblem franchise, whose story had not previously been available to Western audiences in this form, despite the character gaining recognition in North America through the Super Smash Bros. series. Players command units across grid-based battlefields, managing positioning, unit classes, and tactical decisions in turn-based combat. The remake serves both as an entry point for players new to the franchise and as a way for longtime fans to experience the foundational narrative that launched the series in Japan nearly two decades prior.
